Using warm towels originated from the Japanese tradition of using “oshibori” or wet towels to clean the hands before meals. Others use the towels on their faces. Over the years, this Japanese practice has evolved and has become famous in other sectors where the practice varies.
Many Western restaurants offer heated wet towels before and after meals to clean the fingers and the mouth.

Warm towels are traditionally 100 percent cotton and are simply moistened with water. Some put lemon juice extracts on them for an added fragrance and for cleaning purposes. Others just put cleaning agents on them like alcohol.
